I hiked to Salal Hill specifically for this swell to be high enough to show the lighthouse in its actual relationship to the ocean rather than isolated against the sky. At 20 plus feet, waves reach the rocks at the base of the headland and send white water in all directions. The lighthouse has stood at this point since 1873. On days like
