The 1st Battalion, 180th Infantry Branch was originally organized in 1918 as Company C, 3d Infantry. It was redesignated as Company L, 180th Infantry in 1921. In 1940, it was inducted into federal service and reorganized as the Headquarters Detachment, 1st Battalion, 180th Infantry.
