Patrick was Bishop of Ely and considered one of the great biblical scholars of the era, influenced by the Cambridge Platonists and generally considered an "Arminian Anglican." His works were reprinted and considered standards for rigorous scholarship up through the end of the 19th century. Spurgeon held many works by Patrick in his own library
